In the summer of 2010, I wrote the first movement of my Summer Sonata. A self-contained piece—yet yearning for a sequel, or rather a counterpart. I wanted the first movement, marked Moderato, to be bright, free, light, transparent, and sun-drenched. The newly created second movement is more nocturnal, more hidden, with a subdued glow. A romance, a (summer) night piece.
