All rental prices for our string instruments in one place: per month, including VAT, and always including bow, rosin and case or bag. You pay quarterly in advance; three months is the minimum rental period. The quality class sets the price; within a class, size makes a small difference.

Four classes, and who they are for

All classes are handmade in Europe and set up by our violin maker. The difference is in sound and playability, not in build quality.

• BudgetFor the first year

  Solid and well set up, more limited in sound. Enough to find out whether the instrument suits you.

  Purchase value violin € 250 to € 700, cello € 700 to € 1,000
• AdvancedFor those who keep going

  Noticeably more sound and easier to play. The logical step after one to two years of lessons.

  Purchase value violin € 700 to € 1,200, cello € 1,000 to € 2,000
• PremiumFor experienced players

  An instrument that grows with your playing and makes the difference in an ensemble or orchestra.

  Purchase value violin € 1,200 to € 2,500, cello € 2,000 to € 3,000
• Premium+For top-level players

  For ambitious players and conservatoire students, usually on the teacher's advice.

  Purchase value violin € 2,500 to € 4,000, cello € 3,000 to € 6,000

Starting price per instrument and class

Per month, for the smallest size in that class. The full table per size, with insurance and deposit, is further down this page and on the instrument page.

Viola: Budget is only available in 15 and 16 inch; the children's sizes (1/8 to 14 inch) are rented in Advanced, which is why Advanced is the lowest price there. Double bass: no Premium+.

Other costs

  Optional. Covers damage and maintenance such as strings and rehairing. More about the package.

• € 0 to € 500Deposit, one-off

  No deposit for most violins and violas; for cellos, double basses and the higher classes € 100 to € 500. You get the deposit back when you return the instrument.

• € 9.95Shipping, one-off

  Violin and viola, anywhere in the Netherlands by PostNL, DHL or DPD. Collection from the shop is free.

• € 14.95Delivery, one-off

  Cello and double bass, within 100 km of The Hague. Collection from the shop is free.

• Worked exampleCello 1/4 Budget, delivered

  3 × € 17 rent + 3 × € 4 insurance + € 100 deposit + € 14.95 delivery = € 177.95 at the start, then € 21 per month.

Rental prices for the violin

From € 8 to € 40 per month. We rent Premium+ in 3/4 and 4/4, Premium from 1/16. In 1/32 we rent Budget. You choose size and class on the violin page, with the starting amount for each combination.

Rental prices for the viola

From € 13 to € 40 per month. In the children's sizes (1/8 to 14 inch) we rent Advanced. Budget and Premium come in 15 and 16 inch, Premium+ only in 15 inch. You choose size and class on the viola page, with the starting amount for each combination.

Rental prices for the cello

From € 17 to € 43 per month. Premium+ starts at size 1/2, Premium at size 1/4. In the smallest sizes we rent Budget and Advanced. You choose size and class on the cello page, with the starting amount for each combination.

Rental prices for the double bass

From € 26 to € 48 per month. We rent Premium in 3/4 and 4/4, Advanced from 1/10. In 1/16 we rent Budget. You choose size and class on the double bass page, with the starting amount for each combination.

Electric instruments

For silent practice or amplified playing we also rent an electric violin and an electric cello.
