Ludwig van Beethoven (1770 – 1827) wrote his Sonata for Piano and Cello in D major, op.102/2 in 1815; he published both sonatas in op.102 two years later, with a dedication for Countess Anna-Maria Erdödy (1779 – 1837), for many years Beethoven’s admirer and patron. In comparison to its predecessor sonata, the Sonata for Piano and Cello in C major, op.102/1, Beethoven’s Sonata for Piano and Cello in D major, op.102/2 appears to follow a more conventional form scheme. It features three movements.
