Written in 1981 for the painter and musician Rivka Golani, the work was premiered in 1981 at Musique Vivante, Paris, by Rivka Golani on viola. A harmonic progression unfolding at a very slow tempo is overlaid by several ceaselessly trembling and irregularly moving sound grids, created by a precisely defined arpeggio and tremolo technique of the bow. What emerges through these grids is an extremely multifaceted, rapidly moving music, all happening simultaneously. Very difficult. There is also a version of the same work for cello (1981). (H.
