Good-sounding studies for first position are hard to find. Vladimir Rivkin fills this gap with his "Music Box," a collection of 31 pieces with stimulating titles that help solve violin-specific problems. All pieces are written in first position. The highlight is the three-movement Concertino, which also requires only first position. The violin parts are complemented by well-known folk songs and daily exercises. A fairly easy piano accompaniment is available in a separate edition. It provides additional motivation for the student and simultaneously promotes ensemble playing.
