"The Elephant" and "Tortoises" are two distinct musical movements from Camille Saint-Saëns' Carnival of the Animals, often arranged for cello or double bass and piano. "The Elephant" (L'éléphant) is a heavy, waltzing piece, while "Tortoises" (Tortues) is a slow, parody version of the Can-can, reflecting the creatures' contrasting speeds.
