Domenico Gabrielli (Bologna, April 15, 1651 or October 19, 1659 – July 10, 1690) was an Italian Baroque composer and virtuoso cello player. As a composer, he was instrumental in liberating the cello from its limited role as a bass instrument, writing some of the earliest known works for the cello as a solo instrument. While in Bologna, he may also have been the driving force behind the development of wound strings for this instrument.
This edition contains a variety of cello pieces: Ricercares for solo cello, a canon for 2 cellos, and two sonatas for cello and basso continuo.
