Songs Without Words (Lieder ohne Worte) is a series of short lyrical piano works by the Romantic composer Felix Mendelssohn written between 1829 and 1845. His sister, Fanny Mendelssohn, and other composers also wrote pieces in the same genre. Each volume, five of which were dedicated to women including his friend Clara Schumann, consists of six songs of varying mood and character. This is the first book of arrangements for violoncello and piano in a four-volume collection by Alfred Piatti. Included in Book 1: Op. 19 (Nos. 1-4, 6); Op. 30 (Nos. 7-12).
