This edition is intended as a supplementary program for beginner lessons. The book starts with open strings and progresses to the fourth position. Each new position is introduced with two pieces, each designed as an introductory exercise for learning the new position. Beginners can play all the pieces without changing positions. The focus is on making music from the very beginning and playing together with the piano. The double bass part alternates between melody and accompaniment. The styles and characters are deliberately varied. Each piece tells a short story.
