There are composers about whom little or nothing is known, composers known solely for their works, or even for just one. Luigi Carvelli belongs to this group: he lived in the second half of the 19th century and died after the turn of the century. Carvelli was likely a horn player in the Turin/Milan area and played in the premiere of Verdi's "Falstaff." Little more than his "Serenata Napolitana" has survived—a wonderfully catchy and sonorous little piece, ideal as a short recital for teaching purposes or as an encore, a "treat" after a substantial sonata program.
