Pirastro sheep gut viola strings are made by hand. They provide a well-balanced sound with a wide range of timbres. The following versions are available in medium, strong and soft diameter/string tension, indicated in PM (Pirazzi meter = 0.05 mm):
- A string : gut core with aluminum winding, ball-end (13 3/4. 14 or 14 1/4 PM);
- D string : gut core with aluminum winding, ball-end (15 3/4, 16 or 16 1/4 PM);
- G string : gut core with aluminum winding, knot-end (16 1/4, 16 1/2 or 16 3/4 PM);
- C string : gut core with silver winding, knot-end (20 3/4, 21 or 21 1/4 PM);
- The A and D strings have a ball and the G and C strings are equipped with a knot.
