Each sonata in this cycle, also known as the "Rosary Sonatas," takes its motto from one of the mysteries of the Rosary. A unique feature is that the violin must be tuned differently for each piece. No composer before or since Biber has employed the technique of scordatura with such consistency. This edition includes both the original musical text and a transcription into modern notation, and reproduces the original copperplate engravings.
