Urtext edition for violin and piano, piano reduction with marked and unmarked string parts. The first volume of Claude Debussy's Préludes for piano (HN 383) was published in 1910, soon followed by arrangements for various ensembles commissioned by the original publisher. However, Debussy himself transcribed only one Prélude: Minstrels, which appeared in 1914 in a version for violin and piano. "Minstrels" was the term used at the time for comedians who performed in makeup and caricatured the alleged behavior of Black people in America. This arrangement is of interest to pianists—because Debussy also intervened in the original score through variations—and, of course, to violinists, who will find a charming and rewarding part of medium difficulty.
