Georg Philipp Telemann's six sonatinas for violin and basso continuo make an important standard work for violin accessible to the viola. They have long been a staple of the repertoire for string instruments in the "Jugend musiziert" competition. The original cycle, Sei Suonatine per Violino e Cembalo, dates from 1718. This edition is based on the original printed version. The viola part has been arranged for practical use. As prime examples of "mixed taste," they masterfully combine Italian and French stylistic elements.
